PTI invites PML-N parliamentary leaders to Imran's oath-taking ceremony

Separately, Jahangir Tareen meets PML-Q leadership in Lahore

ISLAMABAD: Starting a new beginning, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) invited Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentary leaders to be a part of Imran Khan’s oath-taking ceremony.

A PTI delegation comprising former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Pervez Khattak, party spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry, former K-P Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser and Shafqat Mehmood arrived at the speaker’s house in Islamabad on Sunday to meet incumbent NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and exchange views over the upcoming session of the National Assembly session and election of new speaker of the house.

Sadiq will administer oath to newly-elected members of the lower house of parliament on Monday (tomorrow).

Post-meeting, Fawad Chaudhry told reporters that PTI sought a working relationship with the PML-N. He also said the NA speaker had been informed of party’s reservations regarding allotment of parliament lodges.



Meanwhile, the media wing of NA secretariat issued a statement outlining the impending session of the house.

According to details, the session has been called at 10:00am on Monday at the Parliament House. It will begin with newly-elected MNAs taking oath. The nomination papers for speaker and deputy speaker can be submitted by August 14 (Tuesday) 12:00am while the election will be held on August 15 (Wednesday).



Separately, a Jahangir Khan Tareen-led delegation met Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leaders including Chaudhry Shujaat, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Moonis Elahi and Tariq Bashir Cheema in Lahore to deliberate over upcoming Punjab Assembly session.

In a joint news conference, Tareen lauded PML-Q for the development work during their tenure in early 2000s. “We reviewed the political situation in Punjab and upcoming elections for speaker in the National Assembly. We have good numbers to form government in Punjab,” he said.

He added the coalition will introduce local government system to empower institutions. Chaudhry Pervez backed Tareen’s statements by adding that the two parties deliberated over devolution of powers to the lowest level.

On the matter of Punjab chief minister, Tareen said Imran is yet to make a decision but confirmed that Chaudhry Pervez will be backed by PTI for the slot of Punjab Assembly speaker.
