A Hangzhou-based banker makes big bucks from her side job --drawing popular emoticons, China Daily reported.

Wang Ling, who is in her twenties, started drawing at a young age.  She started learning about emoticons as a high school senior.

Ling used cash presented to her during one spring festival by relatives to buy instruments and started learning on her own. The woman started working at a bank after graduating from university in 2013 but felt something amiss.

"There are few emoticons that can express the feelings in my heart so I just create a image to express emotion," she said.

Wangdan, a popular emoticon created by the woman, is named after a nickname of Wang. Ling contacted a manufacturer to make 200 dolls of the aforementioned emoticon.

The woman said she had not expect an overwhelming response to the initiative. All 200 dolls sold out on Taobao, an online Chinese retailer, much to Ling's surprise. She said drawing helped her relieve stress and make an extra buck or two.
