BHOWANA:

A woman recently filed for a divorce from her husband after he refused to name their son according to her and her family’s wishes.

According to Bhowana Moza Kahlon resident Razaq Jutt’s family, his wife Razia decided to separate from him after he refused to name their son according to her wishes. The couple broke into a huge fight at the hospital after the delivery of the baby boy on Wednesday afternoon.

“It was absolute mayhem. We thought it would be a day of joy for both of them but they were quarrelling at the top of their lungs. The entire ward got wind of what was happening,” said a nurse at the THQ hospital, Meena Nadeem.

“One would think that these people would be happy that they just had a healthy baby boy but they were bickering over a name. The mother wanted to name the boy Safdar after her father but the husband insisted he would be named after his father Noor,” said a medical attendant Kashif.

Eyewitnesses said the quarrel progressed and that Razaq even struck his wife several times in front of the entire hospital. “We intervened at that point and asked him to leave the premises,” said Kashif.

Razaq’s mother Shehla Begum said that the family had decided a name for the child since even before he was born. “There was nothing to discuss but Razia ended up making a scene at the hospital,” she said.

Hospital officials said that Razia’s husband returned to the hospital on Thursday and the couple quarrelled again. “Neither was willing to compromise on the issue and Razia demanded a divorce from Razaq. He granted her the divorce and announced it in front of everybody,” Meena said.

Hospital officials said that they escorted Razia and her son to her parent’s home after she refused to return with her husband. “It was quite a scandal because everyone in the hospital knew what was happening. The girl’s in-laws came to the hospital and threatened to take her child away from her but we didn’t let them in the ward,” said Kashif.

“They cannot bar us from seeing our grandson. He will stay with us. I don’t care what happens to his mother,” Shehla told reporters. Razaq’s family said that they would file a case against Razia and her family for kidnapping his son and for having illicit relations with a neighbour. “She has been cheating on me. That is why she asked for a divorce,” Razaq said.

“I will not let her keep my son. I will get him back at all costs,” Razaq said.
