Punjab Assembly member on PTI quota says gender parity high on her agenda

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) nominee for Punjab Assembly’s reserved seats for women Shamim Aftab has said that she would work for gender parity and women empowerment.

“I will make utmost efforts for the betterment of women,” said former president of Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI), Aftab at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Friday.

She said chambers of commerce including women chamber should send her their proposals so that with joint efforts, better policies could be made for gender parity and better development of women in the country.

ICCI President Sheikh Amir Waheed called upon expected Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government to focus on the economic empowerment of women as without empowering them, the country could not achieve sustainable economic growth.

He said it was an honour that Aftab, former president of IWCCI was nominated by PTI on reserved seats of women for Punjab Assembly.

Waheed said women were half of the country's population and there was a dire need of bringing them into the mainstream of economy to ensure fast economic development of the country.

He urged that PTI government should make policies conducive for the promotion and growth of women entrepreneurs across the country.

He said being former president of IWCCI Aftab was fully aware of the issues of businesswomen and hoped that as member of Punjab Assembly, she would play positive role for resolving their major issues.

ICCI Senior Vice President M Naveed Malik and Vice President Nisar Mirza said Pakistani women were very talented however they needed an environment free from fear of harassment and discrimination to excel in every field.

They hoped that the PTI governments in Punjab and centre would pay priority attention to the development of women.

They assured that ICCI would fully cooperate with the new government in its endeavours aimed at promotion of women entrepreneurs.
