LAHORE: “At least 100,000 trees will be planted on campuses as part of the administrations vision in playing their part to protect the environment,” said Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Niaz Ahmed Akhtar.
He made this announcement while launching the tree plantation drive at the PU Institute of Agricultural Sciences on Thursday.
‘Hospitals to plant 1,000 trees’
Institute of Agricultural Sciences Director Dr Saleem Haider, Punjab Forest Department Chief Conservator Muhammad Farooq, PU Academic Staff Association President Dr Mehboob Hussain, faculty members and students were also present on the occasion.
Speaking to the media, the PU vice chancellor said that conserving the environment is the need of the hour; we cannot hope to survive without maintaining a healthy atmosphere, he stressed.

PU will launch research projects which will contribute towards saving nature. It is our national duty to keep our environment clean, he added.
“Various kinds of pollution are taking a toll on hundreds of thousands of lives every year. If we do not move in the right direction, it will become difficult for our future generations to survive,” he maintained.
