BHC grants bail to Mushtaq Raisani, Khalid Langove

Court sets bail for both former Balochistan govt officers at Rs5 million each

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Monday accepted the bail pleas of former finance secretary Mushtaq Raisani and ex-finance adviser to chief minister Khalid Langove in a mega corruption case.

The BHC’s divisional bench, comprising Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and Justice Zaheeruddin Kakar, hearing the case set the bail at Rs5 million each.



In May 2016, a National Accountability Bureau team raided the former finance secretary’s office inside the Civil Secretariat and arrested him. The NAB also raided his residence and seized cash amounting to Rs730 million and jewellery worth nearly Rs40 million.

A cache of foreign currencies was also found. The amount of cash seized was so large that the NAB officials had to use teller machines to tally the exact sum. The NAB officials confirmed 14 bags stuffed with local and foreign currencies were found from a locker. TV footage had showed NAB functionaries removing the bags from Raisani’s residence.



A large number of documents had also been found during the search, confirming Raisani’s involvement in the real estate business. Further investigations revealed that he also possessed valuable illegal properties in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority. After successful NAB efforts, the illegal properties were transferred and handed over to the Balochistan government in 2017.

Langove was also involved in Raisani’s scandal.

Separately on Monday, an accountability court conducted the hearing of a local government embezzlement case against Raisani and another accused Faisal Jamal. Both the accused were present before the court.
Two witnesses Attaullah and Furqan testified before the court after which the case was adjourned till August 7.
