QUETTA: Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) President Jam Kamal has lauded the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for holding general elections in a free and fair environment throughout the province, saying “our party accepts the results” despite senior BAP leaders faced defeat in the polls.

Addressing a news conference at the BAP office, Kamal said, “Fortunately the electoral process was completed peacefully in the province and now we are heading towards forming the next provincial government.

“Consensus is being developed among our senior party leaders and other political parties to form the next provincial government. We will emerge with a better decision, which will be in complete interest of the people of Balochistan.”

BAP Founder Saeed Ahmed Hashmi, Secretary General Manzoor Khan Kakar, Senator Anwarul Haq Kakar, former chief minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, Ruqayya Hashmi and other senior leadership accompanied Kamal.

To a query about Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) chief Akhtar Mengal’s comments on BAP’s rudeness, Kamal said, “Mengal is a very respectable political figure of Balochistan. Apart from political relations, he is my relative as well. The BAP leaders are in contact with BNP-M, MMA, PTI and independent candidates to develop a consensus for forming the next Balochistan government.”

Kamal announced that the total strength of BAP in the Provincial Assembly will reach 18 as independent candidate Arif Jan Muhammad Hassani is willing to join BAP.

Elaborating on reports about being the next chief minister, Kamal said, “We belong to a democratic political party; therefore, media should also be more careful while airing my name as the next CM.
“The next CM will be announced after consensus with all political parties and the senior BAP leadership.”

On impartiality of general elections, Kamal said, “Our candidates have shown complete satisfaction towards the electoral process.”

Rebuffing allegations about “aliens” involvement in forming BAP and the general elections, Kamal said, “Our strong candidates lost their seats in elections. If we had the support of hidden powers, they would not have lost.”

Former chief minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, who again got elected from Awarn, said, “Losers should accept the result as victory and defeat is part of elections.

“I am glad in 2018 election I bagged thousands of votes and emerged victorious. Those mocking my 500 votes should increase the numbers.”
