UHS vice chancellor appointed

LAHORE: The Punjab government has appointed Dr Javed Akram as the vice chancellor as the University of Health Sciences (UHS).

This was stated in a notification issued by the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department on Thursday.

Akram is the founding vice chancellor of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University and the former principal of Allama Iqbal Medical College Lahore. He will now be UHS vice chancellor for a four-year long tenure. Akram is a renowned general physician and a professor of medicine with more than 40 years of experience in teaching and research. His speciality lies in infectious diseases, blood pressure, heart diseases, diabetes and hypertension management. Akram has also penned over six books and over 400 research papers. Previously in 1990, he also received the prime ministers gold medal for researching Parkinson’s diseases.
