Driver of NA-226 candidate injured as vehicle catches fire

HYDERABAD: A man was injured on Tuesday night when Allah-o-Akbar Tehreek’s (AAT) NA-226 candidate Faisal Nadeem Shaikh was targeted in a cracker attack. Shaikh remained unhurt in the attack, however, his vehicle caught fire.

The incident occurred in Latifabad in Hyderabad, which is included in NA-226.

The AAT is the political wing of Jamaatud Dawa (JuD). The JuD had earlier launched its political wing under the name of Milli Muslim League.

A party spokesperson told The Express Tribune that unidentified on a motorcycle hurled a cracker outside the party's office and escaped. "Shaikh had a moment ago alighted from the vehicle and entered the office. The driver was reversing the jeep when it was attacked," the spokesperson said.

The driver, Shoaib Khaskheli, was injured in the attack. He was shifted to Liaquat University Hospital. Talking to the media after the attack, Shaikh said Indian agents were involved in the attack.

Hyderabad SSP Adeel Hussain Chandio and Rangers officers reached the AAT's office in Latifabad to start investigations. According to police sources, Shaikh's name has been on the hit list. The police last year arrested some suspects who were planning an attack on him.
