PESHAWAR: The widow of the late ANP leader, Haroon Bilour, has returned a compensation cheque from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government, saying that her husband has sacrificed his life for the country.

Haroon Bilour, son of the late Bashir Ahmad Bilour, was contesting the upcoming election from the platform of Awami National Party (ANP) for a provincial assembly seat, PK-78, in Peshawar. Bashir Bilour was also killed in a suicide attack in December 2012.

Haroon Bilour and 13 of his supporters were killed in a suicide bomb attack at a corner meeting his party had organised as part of his election campaign in the Yakatoot area of Peshawar on July 11.

The K-P government on Thursday issued compensation cheques for the heirs of the victims. A cheque of Rs500,000 was sent to the widow of Haroon Bilour, which she returned to the authorities.

Samar Haroon Bilour said the Bilour family had always shown resilience against terrorism. She said her father-in-law, Bashir Ahmad Bilour, was martyred by terrorists while her husband had also become a victim of terrorism. However, she said the Bilour family would not be intimidated by such acts of cowardice.
