MUZAFFARGARH/ BAHAWALPUR: A ‘spiritual healer’ allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in Muzaffargarh’s Jatoi Tehsil on Wednesday. The accused also robbed the house before fleeing the scene.

A police official said that child F*, a resident of Sabai Wala area, was suffering from throat cancer for the last few months. In a bid to cure him, his family members invited a ‘spiritual healer’ identified as Qamar Abbas to treat the disease, the official added.

He said the accused mixed some toxic powder in a jar of milk and gave it to the family members to consume it. “When the patient and his family consumed the milk, their condition deteriorated and they fell unconscious,” the police official maintained.

He said taking advantage of the situation the accused allegedly raped Z*, the mother of the child and looted cash and valuables from the house. After committing the offence, the ‘spiritual healer’ fled the scene, he mentioned.

Later, people from the neighbourhood called the police which reached the spot and shifted the victims to the hospital. Meanwhile, the police said that the victim’s samples had been sent for medical examination and a case had been registered against the culprit. The police was conducting raids to arrest the suspect.

On July 12, a man died after allegedly being treated by a ‘spiritual healer’ who gave him the wrong medication in Faisalabad’s Jaranwala area.

The healer practiced ‘amal’ and also administered some medicine mixed with chilli powder to the ailing patient. The accused locked the man in a room and continued the treatment. After some time, the condition of the victim deteriorated and he died.
