QUETTA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) member Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri has condemned the attack on party leader Akram Durrani in Bannu, saying “we are being attacked for speaking in favour of Pakistan, and democracy and welfare of the people”.
“Our peace-loving policy should not be perceived as our weakness. Prior to this, we remained under horrific attacks. It is the responsibility of the state to ensure our protection,” said Maulana Haideri while addressing a gathering.
Durrani, a former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, escaped an attack on his electoral gathering on Sariab Road in Faizabad, which claimed the lives of four people and injured 39 others.
Haideri said, “Durrani has always promoted politics of peace and tolerance.”
He said that in such situations where “our leaders are not secure how can we continue our electoral campaigns?”
He vowed to rid the country of terrorism once in power.
“Apparently, the situation is being taken towards instability so the elections can be delayed. We will not tolerate any move to delay the elections,” he said.
“Akram Durrani is not only a patriotic citizen of Pakistan but an asset of the party.”
He urged that the investigations into the attack on him be commenced transparently and fairly.
