LAHORE: The Punjab government removed Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC) Principal Dr Muhammad Rashid Zia, directing he leave his office immediately, due to poor management and various other issues that have plagued the varsity. According to a notification issued by the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department on Thursday, Zia was removed from the post of AIMC principal with immediate effect. However, he will still continue to teach as an ENT professor at the varsity.  In Zia’s place, Prof Amtullah Zareen of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department will act as the interim principal until a permanent head is appointed.  Sources said Zia was removed for mismanaging affairs at the college, while the doctors’ community was demanding his removal.
