RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation has completed 50% of the work on upgrading basic facilities from the World Bank grant, official sources said.
The corporation has spent Rs110 million from the grant on the renovation of Pirwadhai General Bus Stand, Municipal Library, slaughterhouse and road infrastructure, they said.
RMC has started work on rebuilding the roof of the Municipal Library at a cost of Rs20 million. The older roof of the library has been demolished and new one will be ready by September, they said.
It will invest another Rs3 million for improvement of bus, wagon, taxi and rickshaw stand at Pirwadhai, said officials.
The corporation has pumped in Rs15 million so far to refurbish waiting areas and washrooms at the city’s busiest bus terminal, they said.
Meanhwile the corporation is set to spend Rs15 million on improving the sewerage system from Haji Road to Bund Khanna Road.
Upgrading of the RMC slaughterhouse was also half complete. This project will cost Rs75 million.
