Information minister warns of strict action against encroachments

QUETTA: Heavy traffic owing to rising population and no respect for traffic rules are the daunting challenges Quetta city is facing today. Traffic jams for hours have become the norm of the day. However, it is the responsibility of public to assist the traffic police and other concerned authorities to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city.

These views were stated by interim Balochistan Minister for Information Malik Khuram Shahzad while addressing a meeting on maintenance of traffic and improving the parking system in Quetta on Tuesday.

Interim Minister Agha Umar Bangulazi, Local Government Minister Manzoor Hussain Qazalbash and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nazeer Kurd were also present in the meeting.

Shahzad said, “Illegal encroachments on roadsides and absence of wide roads most often lead to heavy traffic jams in the city.”

However, it was decided in the meeting that strict action would be taken against encroachments. In this regard, a traffic session would be held every week to disseminate among the people awareness about the challenges of traffic and how to avert them.

The participants of meeting were of the view that if a specific place was reserved for vehicles, the traffic flow would not get disturbed by the pedestrians.
