Suspected robber shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: A suspected robber was killed during an encounter with the police in District Malir on Sunday. Police officials said the encounter took place when two suspects were attempting to flee after robbing a citizen near Saudabad Chowk in Malir within the limits of the Khokhrapar police station.

The police personnel busy in routine patrolling reached the area and tried to intercept the suspects riding a motorcycle, however, the suspects opened fire at the police and tried to escape. In retaliation, the police fired back and killed one of the robbers. However, his companion managed to escape.

Police officials said that the deceased suspect was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. He was later identified as Asim alias Don.

The police also claim to have seized weapons and a stolen motorcycle from his possession.

A case was registered while further investigation is under way.
