KARACHI: Just one day after the federal health minister said that he was hoping hospitals are not devolved to the provinces, the provincial health minister described his statement as a personal opinion.

Sindh Health Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed said the federal health minister Riaz Husain Pirzada’s claim was not a parliamentary decision. Ahmed was speaking at a ceremony after the completion of a central air-conditioning project in 18 units of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) on Tuesday.

Ahmed added that initial resistance to devolution of any ministry was expected, however, parliament’s decision must be honoured. He said that people who were continuously commenting on the province’s inability to handle their responsibilities needed to let the department do its work and respect the decisions made in the assemblies.  The project at ASH was completed at a cost of Rs40 million under the supervision of State Minister for Overseas Pakistan Dr Nadeem Ehsan and MNA Shagufta Sadiq.
