KARACHI: "We’re entertainers, we’re actors. We are not politicians. It’s not our job to talk about social issues," Mahira Khan said in a recent interview. However, when it came to who she will be voting for in the upcoming general elections, the Raees actor picked Jibran Nasir in a heartbeat, after the human rights activist announced that he will be contesting the upcoming general elections from Karachi.

Unsurprisingly, it's not just Mahira who will be voting for Jibran this year. Many other celebs have some forward and pledged their support for the 'Azaad Umeedwaar,' who is running for elections the second time around.

Celebrities such as Osman Khalid Butt, Mansha Pasha and many others have taken social media by storm, giving rise to an unlikely campaign for Jibran titled, Hum Mein Se Aik. The slogan represents the hopeful candidate and everything he claims to stand for.

Osman expressed his admiration for Jibran by posting, "Coming soon to a constituency near you, Karachi. Hum Mein Se Aik is not just a campaign slogan for Jibran Nasir: it's who he is. He represents the people; he stands for them. This July 25, vote wisely."

Sporting a plain white T-shirt with the same slogan, Mansha of Chalay The Saath fame also made sure to get her message across.

Other celebs such as Anoushey Ashraf, Dino Ali, Maria Wasti, Bushra Ansari, Mira Sethi, Kami Sid, Sarmad Khoosat and others have also decided to vote for Jibran later this month.

When asked about the multiple celebrity endorsements, Jibran said he was grateful. "The campaign is about what I wish to bring to people. It's about what I stand for and how I've conducted my activism for the last five years or so," he told The Express Tribune. "This is just a teaser of the campaign. We have a song about it as well. It'll be released either on Thursday or Friday."

He continued, "Hum Mein Se Aik is about how ordinary I am; how I literally am for the people, for the people. My campaign doesn't just have actors, it has activists and labourers. It's about how these influential personalities are supporting me and my ideology for Pakistan. It's about how I come from a very ordinary background, without any party affiliation or sources."

Police accuses Jibran Nasir of seeking public sympathy before elections

"Since I am coming from the general public, as an independent candidate, I am sure people will find me relatable. We're not making a cult, we're just a group of people untied for a better tomorrow," Jibran said.

A lawyer by profession, he is at the forefront in a number of cases being heard in different courts. Jibran is also part of the legal team representing the father of Naqeebullah Mehsud, killed in a fake encounter by former SSP Malir Rao Anwar and his team in Karachi, the Khadija Siddiqui assault case and a counsel in Shahrukh Jatoi's case as well.

Manzoor Ahmed | 6 years ago | Reply There is no doubt that a fearless and patriotic person that is Jibran Nasir. This country needs such people who genuinely care and voice peoples issues. But elections are a numbers game and even if he wins without numbers he cannot achieve much. This country has been looted and plundered by mainstream parties who have been in power for decades and to beat them only one party stands and that is PTI. Although not perfect party but it has been instrumental in getting NS disqualified for life for the corruption and money laundering. This is the time PTI gets not just in provincial but federal as well so remainder corrupt and money laundering parties also get disqualified. Once justice is served then we can see this country reach its full potential.
Rabia | 6 years ago | Reply He may be a good activist and a good person but we need power to change, power in assemblies to do legislation, you need to be majority to change laws. Obe man can only do social work or legislation. Voting Jibran in my opinion will pave the way for the other candidates of PPP MQM PSP to enter the assembly as in no case he can win. He has not touched the entire constituency and there 17 underpriviliged colonies where no one knows Jibran. So please dont help PPP MQM PSP or PMLN to take over the consituency becase for them its a gold mine. You may have issues with PTI but it will be no different situation gor Jibran being the single person handicapped to deliver. Lets give a chance to someone like PTI who showed will to deliver, if comes with majority for sure will deliver.
