KARACHI: Police arrested on Tuesday a suspected drug peddler for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl.

According to police officials, the incident took place at Rabbani Muhalla within the limits of Pirabad police station.

Police said the incident took place on Sunday, but the family did not approach the police as they were afraid of dire consequences.

The suspect, identified as Abdul Wudod, is the victim’s neighbour, police said, adding that the suspect took advantage of the victim’s family members’ absence from home and took her to his house on Sunday and sexually assaulted her.

The victim was playing outside when the suspect took her to his house. On returning home after visiting some relatives, police officials said, the victim’s family became aware of the incident but chose to remain silent.

However, the victim’s father, who is a labourer by profession, finally informed the police when the law enforcers called him to the police station after receiving news about the assault from elsewhere. The victim’s father then narrated the story to the police. Reacting immediately, the police arrested the suspect and registered an FIR on behalf of the victim’s father.

Police officials said the suspect is a drug peddler, adding that the victim was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital from where doctors took a DNA sample for testing.
