Official says 390 road crashes occurred due to speeding

RAHIM YAR KHAN: At least 68,066 emergency calls were received and 2,472 people were rescued and provided first aid by Rescue 1122 in the month of June in Rahim Yar Khan District.

This was stated by Rescue 1122 District Emergency Officer Dr Abdul Sattar on Tuesday.

He said of the total calls received by the service, 2,338 calls were of an emergency nature, while 720 calls were related to information.

He revealed Rescue 1122 responded to 632 road accidents, 37 cases of fire, 58 crime cases, eight cases of drowning, one case of cylinder explosion and 1,391 medical cases.

In addition, Sattar maintained that rescue officials also dealt with 211 different incidents. He pointed out that of the 2,472 victims, 376 were given initial medical aid on the spot, while 2,008 people were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. The official said that the injured included 597 men and 167 women.

Rescue 1122 launches scout programme

He said 88 people had died on the spot, while the daily average of dealing with emergencies remained 78.

Similarly, Abdul Sattar said 390 road crashes occurred due to speeding, while 242 took place due to negligence. He mentioned that 768 motorcycles, 76 cars, 99 rickshaws, four buses two tractor-trolleys and 75 other vehicles were involved in road accidents.

He said 92 patients were shifted from one hospital to another through patient transfer service in June.

He said 86 patients were shifted to Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals in Rahim Yar Khan, 274 in Sadiqabad, 327 in Khanpur, 215 in Liaquatpur and 119 patients were shifted to other hospitals of the district.

Meanwhile, the district emergency officer highlighted that courses of fire safety and basic life support were carried out in industrial institutes, educational institutes and private institutions. In addition, he said security and emergency services were carried out as practice exercises to enable rescue officials to meet emergency situations at the accident site.
