PESHAWAR: Girls in Peshawar have outshined boys as the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar announced the results for its Secondary School Certificate (SSC) annual examination on Thursday.

The result, though, presented a damning scorecard for the outgoing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led provincial government. During its five years in power, the party had declared an education emergency in the province and made tall claims of improving the education sector in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), but it failed to ensure that students from its government-managed schooling system could secure a position in the top 20.

PM proposes testing service for matriculation, intermediate exams

K-P Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Dost Muhammad Khan handed out shields and cash prizes to the top position holders at a ceremony at a local hotel.

He noted that the education landscape in the province had changed with teachers seen taking care of students like their own children while students are seen respecting their teachers. Justice Dost urged parents to take care of their children and play a positive role in building their character.

The interim chief minister, though expressed concerns over the habits of the young generation, claiming that they were seen to be wasting their time on mobile phones and other digital devices.

It’s a woman’s world

In the overall result, Sarah Yousaf of the Peshawar Model Girls High School-II on Dalazak Road secured the first position by attaining 1,062 marks.

She was followed by schoolmates Bakhtawar and Tuba Gul who both secured 1,060 to share the second spot.

Aneeba Muskan and Sana Shah, from the Peshawar Model Girls High School-II and University Model School-II respectively, shared the third spot after both had secured 1,058 marks in the annual examination. Interestingly, not a single boy, from either government or private schools in the provincial capital, could secure a place amongst the top 20 position holders even as 24 girls shared the top slots.

Different city, same story

Girls snatched the top three positions as the BISE in Abbottabad announced the results of its annual matriculation examinations.
