Candidates rejected by tribunals to approach high courts

PPP, PTI provincial presidents of Balochistan to appeal tribunal decisions

The candidates rejected by election tribunals have decided to move their respective provincial high courts to contest the decision.

Pakistan Peoples Party's Balochistan president Ali Madad Jatak's nomination papers for PB-31 constituency of Quetta was rejected earlier and was upheld by the appellate tribunal. He will now move the Balochistan High Court (BHC) against the decision.

Separately, an election tribunal in Quetta heard the petition of the provincial president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Yar Mohammad Rind. Maintaining the returning officer's initial order, the tribunal also rejected Rind's plea. Rind was to contest elections from NA-260 and PB-17, and has also announced that he will approach the high court against the verdict.



On June 20, returning officers completed the scrutiny process of nomination papers filed by the candidates to contest the upcoming general elections from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

In the capital, there were three constituencies including NA-52, NA-53 and NA-54 of the federal capital. NA-54 returning officer Abdul Ghafoor Kakar accepted nomination papers of 34 candidates while nomination papers of five candidates were rejected.

Similarly, NA-53 returning officer Mohammad Adnan rejected nomination papers of four candidates for submitting incomplete affidavits. These candidates can file their appeals against rejection of nomination papers with the appellate tribunal.
