At least one soldier embraced martyrdom and another sustained bullet injuries in a militant attack along Pak-Afghan border in North Waziristan, the military's media wing said on Sunday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), terrorists attempted fire raids on troops busy in fencing along the Pak-Afghan border in the west of Gurbaz.

The martyred soldier was 29-year-old sepoy Niaz Ali from Mardan district. Junior commissioned officer was injured in the attack.

The attack comes a day after six terrorists killed and two army soldiers martyred in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Ladha area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s South Waziristan tribal district.

The raid triggered a heavy exchange of fire, ISPR said in a statement. "Nanakar, a high-value target responsible for attacks on local residents and tribal elders, was among those died in today’s raid."

On June 15, three soldiers were martyred in attacks in Shawwal, North Waziristan, while five terrorists killed in an exchange of fire.
Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad, a military offensive against the “latent threat of terrorism”, was launched in February 2017.
