KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) appointed on Friday Additional IG Sanaullah Abbasi as the head of the inquiry against the release of a suspect, Inam Akbar, on parole who is accused of his involvement in more than Rs5 billion corruption. The SHC directed AIG Abbasi to submit a report in one month.
The court remarked that it seemed that the administration of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and the home department were jointly involved in providing unnecessary facilities to influential prisoners.
The home secretary ordered the release of Akbar on parole on June 14, which was the same day when the court had ordered him to be sent to jail, the SHC observed. The court further noted that the jail administration claimed that the suspect was shifted from the prison to a hospital because he was sick, however, that sickness did not stop him from travelling to Lahore from Karachi.

Appointing AIG Abbasi as the inquiry head, the SHC declared that the officer will have all the powers that were required to arrive at the facts.
The court also directed the AIG to investigate whether the law was being violated in the transfer of prisoners from jail to hospitals.
The AIG will have to submit a report to the SHC detailing the inquiry findings in a month.
