No complaint received against Talal Chaudhry before controversial speech: PEMRA

Chaudhry exempted from appearance in next hearing

ISLAMABAD: A senior official of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) testified before the Supreme Court on Thursday that no complaint was received against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) Talal Chaudhry for using derogatory remarks against the judiciary.

Mohammad Tahir, General Manager PEMRA, appeared before the three-judge bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmad, and was cross-examined by both the defence and prosecution.

The defence witness confirmed that no complaint was received against Chaudhry till May 22 regarding his reported anti-judiciary statements. The bench, for a second time, rejected Chaudhry's plea to adjourn the case until after the elections. He further stated that his opponents are propagating before each hearing that the PML-N leader will be disqualified.



The PML-N leader pleaded that the case is adjourned until post elections to avoid this. While the bench dismissed his plea, they granted him exemption from the next hearing on June 28.

On June 19, the SC rejected Chaudhry’s plea to postpone the hearing of his contempt case until after the general elections on July 25.
