Nine of a family killed as jeep plunges into Balakot ravine

Five women and four children, were killed when a jeep plunged into a deep roadside ravine near Bela Shacha village

BALAKOT: At least nine members of a family, including five women and four children, were killed when a jeep plunged into a deep roadside ravine near Bela Shacha village in Balakot on Wednesday.

The crash left six others injured, including two critically.

According to details, a family had gone to attend a matrimonial ceremony in Sharan. While returning to Bela Shacha village it met with an accident and plunged hundreds of feet into a roadside gorge.

Locals pulled out the bodies and rescued the injured themselves.

Three sleeping labourers die in crash

They shifted the dead and injured to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Balakot where the injured were referred to Abbottabad after being provided with initial medical treatment.

The women victims were identified as Fatima Shafiq, Sahib Noor Fazlur Rehman, Mehrunissa Muhammad Rafiq, Shumailah Abdur Rehman, Aishah Nazir, and Khanfa Khairuddin.

The children were identified as Sidra Muhammad Rafiq, Aminah Mohammad Rafiq and Safeer Mohammad Ali.

The injured include Abdul Rehman, Shahbaz Ashraf, Asma Abdul Rahman, Shahbaz Ghulam Rabbani.
