LAHORE: A colourful tractor trolley served as a deathbed for three labourers in Lahore late on Wednesday night.

The young men lost their lives when a tractor trolley they were travelling in rammed into a cemented gate on Ghaziabad Road near Bhatta Chowk, said police. They added the victims were sleeping on the tractor when the accident took place.

Police arrested the driver named Muhammad Nadeem and confiscated the vehicle. They added that the accident took place at 2am when the tractor carrying building blocks passed a private housing society near Bhatta Chowk. The three young labourers, aged between 18 and 22 years, were in deep sleep.

Police said the driver could not properly ascertain the height of the cemented gate inside the housing society and crashed into it. "The accident occurred due to speeding."

Residents immediately called Rescue 1122 and informed the police. The deceased labourers, who hailed from Kot Radha Kishin town near Raiwind, were identified as Sajid, Shahid and Nisar.
