LAHORE: The Capital City Police Lahore devised a comprehensive security plan for Eidul Fitr.

The plan encompasses security arrangements to prevent robberies, snatching, eve teasing, motorcycle stunts on Chaand Raat and maintaining the flow of traffic. The arrangements also aim to ensure security of Eid prayer congregations at open places and in mosques. Security will also be beefed up at parks, cinemas and other places of entertainment where people go on Eid.

According to the plan, at least 15,000 police officials and 2,000 wardens would perform duties on the occasion. To stop one-wheeling and eve-teasing, police would install pickets separated by a few kilometres on all main roads of the city. Moreover, teams of the Dolphin Squad and Police Response Unit would patrol the city, especially saturation points for such activities.

On Chaand Raat, deployment would be increased in the areas surrounding shopping malls, bazaars and markets.

As far Eid congregations were concerned, three-layered security arrangements would be ensured at open places, mosques and imambargahs. The intensity of the deployment would be enhanced according to its sensitivity. The participants would only be allowed entry after going through the three security checks of physical frisking, checking with metal detectors and going past walkthrough gates.

The same security procedure would be adopted for checking at entry points of parks, cinemas, restaurants, the zoo and other entertainment points. The patrolling around these points, visited by the public during Eid holidays, would be enhanced according to the security plan.

SP Dolphin and Police Response Unit (PRU) Nadeem Khokhar said the squad would conduct round-the-clock patrolling in shifts on the three days of Eidul Fitr. He said 182 teams of PRU and Dolphin Squad would perform duties.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains said every cop, from the CCPO to a constable, would be on duty so that people could enjoy their festivities without any fear. He said besides these deployments, monitoring would be done through CCTV cameras installed by the Punjab Safe City Authority Lahore.

He added senior police officers would supervise and monitor these security arrangements. He ordered his force to perform their duty diligently to provide complete security to Lahorites. He requested them to inform the police of any suspicious person or activity. He also asked them to remember the Lahore police’s martyrs in their prayers. He said the force was utilising all available resources to protect the lives and properties of citizens. “They have sacrificed their lives and will not hesitate to do so in future.”

As far traffic arrangements were concerned, over 2,000 wardens will perform duties under the supervision of two SPs and 12 DSPs. Special teams of traffic wardens, in coordination with the Dolphin Squad, will launch a crackdown against stunt motorbike riders on main roads of the city.

Extra wardens would be deployed outside bazaars and markets to maintain the flow of traffic. Strict action against wrong parking, one-way violation and over speeding will be taken according to plan. Lifters engaged by CTPL would pick up the vehicle for parking violations.
