The officer argued that neither did he arrest Naqeebullah nor was he involved in his murder. He claimed that all the available records proved that he did not commit any offence and that he was framed in the case due to internal grouping within the police.
During Thursday's proceedings, the police produced SSP Anwar and other suspects in the Naqeebullah murder case before the ATC. However, due to the absence of the victim's lawyer, the court adjourned the hearing till July 4.

The ATC gave last chance to the lawyer representing Naqeebullah's family to present arguments on SSP Anwar's bail plea and directed the lawyer to ensure his presence on the next hearing.
After the hearing, SSP Anwar censured his own department. He claimed that he had been framed in the case and there was no evidence against him. He alleged that the police department took action against him because of professional jealousy.
Responding to criticisms against declaring his house as a sub-jail, SSP Anwar said it was not an undue favour to him as he had escaped two suicide attacks and a Rs50 million bounty had also been announced on his head. He claimed that he had been facing threats from various terrorist outfits.
