Empowered to protect: Mohmand border posts get solar panels

Around 27 border posts of levies have been energised by the Mohmand tribal administration using solar cells

SHABQADAR: With check posts on the border with Afghanistan lacking power connectivity, as many as 27 border posts of levies have been energised by the Mohmand tribal administration using solar cells.

In this regard, a function was held in Ghallanai, the headquarters of the tribal agency. Mohmand Political Agent Wasif Saeed, along with tribal elders, distributed solar panels, DC fans, batteries and high-beam flashlights amongst the levies and khassadar forces deployed at these security posts in the Baizai Sub Division of Mohmand Agency.



Saeed said that since these posts were not connected to the power grid, there was a need to facilitate the personnel deputed there apart from providing a lighting solution at night. Thereby, he hoped, the performance of security personnel and overall security at these posts would improve.



He added that the equipment distributed on Monday had cost around Rs0.5 million and had been procured while utilising funds of the agency. However, he argued that the impact of this equipment will be far more given the current security situation.

Maliks and Masharan of the agency who were present at the occasion hailed the effort of levies and khassadar forces for protecting the border. They hoped that this would bring about a greater sense of ownership represented in a show of greater will and commitment to observing their duties in protecting the frontiers.
