MULTAN: Application of PB Ropes technique is essential to counter the pink bollworm attack on cotton. This method has yielded good results and proved vital in tackling pink bollworm attack.

This was said by speakers during a training workshop held in Multan on Monday. The workshop was organised by Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) and agriculture extension department. It was jointly presided over by CCRI Director Dr Zahid Mahmood and DG Agriculture Extension Punjab Zafaryab Haidar.

While speaking on the occasion, CCRI Director Mahmood said that CCRI Multan took the lead in advocating application of PB Ropes and introduced this technology four decades ago. He said that CCRI also introduced mechanical boll picking technology that could be useful after the last picking to neutralise the pink bollworm from the half-opened or unopened bolls.

Zafaryab Haidar said that CCRI Multan always played a leading role in addressing cotton related issues and added that agriculture department and CCRI would continue to cooperate with each other for better cotton production.

CCRI Entomology Head Dr Rabia Saeed said that PB Ropes should be applied within 40 to 50 days after sowing cotton crop.
