Monthly performance review: 528 criminals held in May: police

At least two murder cases resolved, suspects held

ISLAMABAD: The capital police have arrested as many as 528 criminals including 128 absconders and recovered valuables worth more than Rs63.6 million from them over the past month.

According to a police spokesperson, the Islamabad Police during May had conducted 37 combing and search operations in the city in collaboration with personnel of other law enforcement agencies. During this sweep, 77 suspects were held.

Further, the official said that the Islamabad Police had arrested as many as 43 people involved in 25 incidents of dacoity cases and recovered looted or snatched valuables worth Rs2.173 million.

Moreover, police officials completed investigations of 730 cases and submitted their challans in the relevant courts, including two murder cases.

A total of 24 burglary cases were resolved apart from the arrest of 40 burglars and recovering valuables worth over Rs25 million were recovered from them.

Further, officials said that they had recovered 27 vehicles worth Rs21.6 million from eight car lifters involved in 29 cases while 12 motorbike lifters involved in 11 cases were also held. Motorbikes worth Rs495,000 were recovered from them.

Police also arrested 13 people for their alleged involvement in 27 cases of tampering vehicles and recovered 26 vehicles worth Rs14.3 million from them.

During a crackdown against absconders, police said that they had arrested 63 proclaimed offenders. The proclaimed offenders were wanted by the police in different criminal cases including murder, attempt to murder, dacoity and snatching valuables.

Moreover, as many as 65 people who were absconding from court cases, were also apprehended.

Police also apprehended 87 people for possessing illegal weapons and recovered three Kalashnikov rifles, 84 pistols and 778 rounds of ammunition from them.

A total of 113 people were held for possessing narcotics and liquor while 104 cases were registered against them. Officials said that they had recovered 14.077 kilogrammes of hashish, 2.83 kgs of heroin and 3,190 bottles of wine and other liquor.

During the same period, the legal action was taken against 493 professional alms-seekers.

A total of 84 other criminals were also held for their involvement in criminal cases of various nature.

SSP (Operations) Najeebur-Rehman Bugvi urged police officials to adopt a decent and polite attitude as it helps in inculcating friendly police ecology and resolving most of the problems.
