Pak Suzuki Motor Company has increased its vehicle prices by around Rs30,000 from June 1 in a third such hike since the beginning of the year due to consistent depreciation of the rupee that makes imports of auto parts expensive.
In a notification issued on Friday, the company announced revised rates of its various vehicle variants.
Both of Suzuki Mehran's variants, the VX and VXR, got costlier by Rs30,000 and Rs33,000 respectively. The price of Mehran VX went up from Rs709,000 to Rs739,000 while Mehran's VXR price increased from Rs762,000 to Rs795,000.
Getting expensive: Pak Suzuki to raise car prices for third time this year
The price of Suzuki Swift DLX rose from Rs1.405 million to Rs1.435 million while Swift's DLX-AT got expensive from Rs1.541 million to Rs1.571 million. The price of Suzuki Cultus VXR was jacked up from Rs1.27 million to Rs1.30 million.
The new price of Wagon-R's VXL variant would now be Rs1.194 million, up Rs30,000 from Rs1.164 million.
The reason given by a Suzuki official for the third price increase in 2018 was the same - the weakening Pakistani rupee. Previously, Suzuki had increased prices in January and March this year following rupee's depreciation.
The auto industry is sensitive to the rupee's weakness because of its high dependence on imported raw material and auto parts that become expensive with the fall in the rupee's value against major international currencies.
