HYDERABAD: On a petition filed for the recovery of a missing person, the Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the joint investigation team (JIT) formed earlier in the case to meet again and include a reputable police officer in the investigations.

An SHC Hyderabad circuit bench gave three weeks on Thursday to the JIT to convene its session and include Inspector Siraj Lashari who is currently posted in Jamshoro district.

The counsel for Neelum Arejo, the petitioner and daughter of a missing person, Khadim Hussain Arejo, rejected the JIT's previous report. The JIT had held three separate sessions of inquiry on the SHC's order.

Campaign to bring missing persons back home gains momentum

"It appears that the government has failed to make its sincere efforts for the production of the missing person," the court observed. "Liberty of a person is supreme."

The SHC directed the JIT to make efforts for the recovery of the missing person and asked the team to employ modern technology and electronic and print media for the purpose. The JIT was also directed to submit a detailed progress report by the next hearing fixed for July 3.

Khadim, who is a food inspector, was allegedly whisked away while he was on his way to his office on April 4. Since then, his daughter Neelum has been leading a protest campaign for his recovery.
