FIA to initiate inquiry against former PPP MNA, his son

Funds worth Rs100 million sanctioned for development schemes allegedly misused

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) zonal board meeting gave approval to initiate an inquiry against former Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Nawab Yousuf Talpur, his son PPP MNA Taimoor Talpur, Masood Bajwa, the education works department and others for embezzlement of funds of over Rs100 million.

A zonal board meeting was held in the office of the FIA Sindh director. It was attended by the additional law director, deputy complaint director, acting deputy crime director, FIA Karachi additional director, FIA Hyderabad and investigation officers, said the FIA spokesperson, adding that complaints were discussed in detail.

In 2011, special funds to the tune of Rs100 million to Rs130 million were allegedly sanctioned on the request of Yousuf for the construction of roads, public health and other development schemes in Sindh. The fund were allegedly embezzled as neither were roads constructed nor the other development schemes completed in the area and funds were withdrawn, embezzled through fake bills in connivance with Bajwa and Taimoor.

The spokesperson said that the board gave approval to initiate another inquiry against Muhammad Imran Mian, the chief executive officer of Genco Holding Company Limited, alTariq Engineering Contractor and others regarding manipulation of void procurement to machine fitting process for thermal power stations in Jamshoro in the power generating machines instead of government approved new equipment, which caused a huge loss to the national exchequer.
