SARGODHA: Due to increasing road accidents, the district administration has formulated a special task force which has started a grand operation against traffic violators and encroachments in the city.

The decision was taken in a meeting which was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha.

While addressing the participants, the deputy commissioner said that there was a need for a pragmatic and comprehensive solution to control the dumpers and rickshaws that daily pass through the highways.

He added the RTA secretary, patrolling police and traffic police, had been tasked with controlling road accidents due to which a strict ban will be imposed on overloaded dumpers, non-licensed driving vehicles and the movement of the chingqi rickshaws on the highways.

The deputy commissioner said that in addition to overloaded rickshaws and dumpers, violation of the traffic laws were the basic reasons behind increasing road crashes.

Similarly, he said the chingqi rickshaws should be barred from movement on the main highway.

Chattha pointed out that operations were being conducted and concrete measures were being taken to curb encroachments in the city. He mentioned that scores of illegal shops and several encroachments were removed during the operation, after which the traffic was restored.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Adnan Shehzad, Tehsil Regulation Officer Asadullah Harya, Revenue Officer Malik Ashraf and others.

Earlier, scores of passengers lost lives in a dumper and chingqi collision on Faisalabad Road. Hence, measures were being taken to control such incidents.
