Torrential rains leave one dead, another injured in K-P

Forecast of more thunderstorms and gusty winds in several districts of the province

PESHAWAR: Torrential rains across Khyber-pakhtunkhwa province take a turn for the deadly, as one person loses their life and another is severely wounded in the aftermath.  The heavy rains took place in districts Charsadda and Mardan respectively; furthermore, partly cloudy weather is predicted in most parts of the province for next 48 hours.

According to MET department officials, one person lost his life in a rain related incident where another was said to have sustained wounds when a roof collapsed due to the heavy downpour, as confirmed by the provincial disaster management authority (PDMA). However it was stated that rains were still expected in parts of the province along with thunderstorms and gusty winds. Officials informed that persistent rains and thunderstorms with winds were predicted for upper parts of the province, specifically the hilly areas.

“Thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected at isolated places in districts Chitral, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Kohistan, Battagram, Torghar, Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Hangu, Karak districts,” a statement issued from the provincial disaster management authority office read.

During last 24 hours, weather remained partly cloudy in most parts of the province. However storms with powerful winds were reported in scattered places including Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar and Mardan divisions.

PDMA also shared the 21 milimeter rain was reported from Malam Jabba, 16mm from Pattan, 13mm from Cherat, 11mm from Kalam and Dir, 9mm from Kakul, Chitral and Mirkhani, 8mm from Risalpur, Saidu Sharif and Timergara, 6mm from Peshawar, 4mm from Drosh and 3mm rain was reported from Balakot.
