AD Khowaja distributes motorcycles among traffic cops

IG calls for creating awareness about helmets, seatbelts, signals and zebra crossings

KARACHI: Sindh Inspector-General of Police Allah Dino Khowaja distributed on Friday 100 new heavy motorcycles among traffic police so that they could perform their duties effectively, especially during Ramazan.

The police chief distributed the motorcycles at a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters in Garden. He was welcomed by Traffic DIG Imran Yaqoob Minhas at the event and also received a guard of honour.

The IG announced that a separate headquarter will soon be established for the traffic police in Karachi. He also promised to provide new vehicles to the traffic SSPs soon.

Of the 100 new motorcycles of 250 cylinder capacity, 88 were handed over to the section officers of the traffic police while 12 were distributed amongst traffic police pilots.



DIG Minhas informed the participants about arrangements made by the traffic police to ensure smooth traffic flow during Ramazan, especially at the time before sehri, iftar and taraweeh. According to the DIG, after a recruitment of 4,000 traffic wardens, more than 7,000 traffic wardens were performing their duties across the city to manage the vehicular traffic.



IG Khowaja stressed the need for implementing traffic rules. He called for initiating campaigns to create awareness about helmets, seatbelts, zebra crossings and traffic signals.

Traffic police officials should interact with the public politely, the IG asserted. He directed the traffic SPs to ensure that they were present on roads during iftar timings so that they could supervise the implementation of the traffic plan.



The IG said he had been receiving complaints about heavy traffic on roads. He directed the traffic police officers to make sure that the issue was resolved, otherwise, SPs and section officers would be held responsible.

Officers who attended the ceremony included the South SSP, zonal DIGs and zonal SSPs.
