Wheat: 60% production target achieved

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Department has so far achieved 60 per cent of the total target of 3.5 metric tons of wheat by procuring the commodity directly from growers across the province, starting April 20.

Secretary Food Punjab Squadron Leader (retd) Muhammad Irfan Elahi said on Tuesday that a total of 80 per cent of gunny bags had been handed out to farmers on a first come basis, throughout the province.

"Divisional Commissioners District Co-Ordination Officers, Director Food, Additional Director Food Punjab will continue surprise visits to monitor performance of the procurement centres besides addressing genuine grievances of farmers on the spot,” he said.
