Minister says it is essential to take local govt on board in case of an emergency

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Planning and Development Malik Nadeem Kamran directed all district administrations to complete pre-monsoon and flood arrangements on an immediate basis on Thursday.

He issued the orders while chairing the second cabinet meeting on pre-monsoon and flood arrangements at the Civil Secretariat.

We have to work as a team in the case of any emergency, therefore it is essential to take local government representatives on board while ensuring their cooperation and assistance, he expressed.

The minister also reviewed arrangements made by different provincial departments to combat the possible threat of a flood.

Pre-monsoon rains ‘have killed 43’ in the country

In the event of a flood during the monsoon season, all local government officials will be at the disposal of their respective deputy commissioner, stated Board of Revenue Senior Member Muhammad Aslam Kamboh.

The local government will provide the district administration with the necessary machinery and equipment while extending their also extending their cooperation, he said.

Kamboh also directed the deputy commissioners to ensure all water ways are clear and bridges are free of encroachments within their districts.

Mock exercises have been conducted in almost all the districts in order to prepare for any untoward situation, said Provincial Disaster Management Authority Director General Mudassar Waheed Malik while briefing the meeting.
