Shehbaz wants to combat crime through technology

Lays foundation stone for Punjab Agriculture, Food and Drug Authority Science Enclave project

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the establishment of a training laboratory was a great initiative where doctors and scientists would be trained to bring criminal investigations and scientific research on modern lines.

Shehbaz expressed these views after laying the foundation stone of Punjab Agriculture, Food and Drug Authority Science Enclave project, adjacent to Punjab Forensic Science Agency at Thokar Niaz Beg, on Thursday. This project would be completed in March 2019 at a cost of Rs4 billion. He also laid the foundation stone of a training laboratory of Punjab Forensic Science Agency which would be completed in November at a cost of Rs1 billion. Shehbaz said the establishment of Punjab Agriculture, Food and Drug Authority Science Enclave was a revolutionary initiative where modern science equipment would be installed. He said the project would play an important role in maintaining the standard of food, medicines and pesticides. This project would be run as an independent institution.

A high-level meeting was also held in the committee room of Punjab Forensic Science Agency headed by the chief minister. Shehbaz was given a briefing about both the projects. Addressing the meeting, the CM appreciated that an important step was taken with regard to criminal investigations and scientific research through these projects.

“The Punjab government has provided resources on a priority basis and we are also giving technical support to KPK and Sindh in this regard,” he added.

Talking to the media persons afterwards, Shehbaz said an important step has been taken towards conducting criminal investigations on a scientific basis.

Responding to a question the chief minister said independents who had joined the PML-N after the elections of 2013 have left the party. Responding to a question asked about the NAB notice with regard to alleged money laundering of Nawaz Sharif, the Shehbaz said this notice of the NAB was based on some bogus and false reports in which it has been stated that Nawaz was involved in money laundering of $4.9 billion.
