KARACHI: A petition was filed in the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday praying upon the court to ban political rallies in the port city on May 12.

The petition stated that a bloodbath took place on May 12 and the day is observed as a black day. It further added that holding political rallies on the day may further result in loss of lives and cited the example of the recent clash between Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) earlier this week.Bilawal blames PTI but offers it to hold rally at Karachi venue

The petitioner, Iqbal Kazmi, also prayed upon the court to cancel the permission granted to both political parties for holding rallies on May 12.

Earlier this week PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari blamed PTI for the incident at Hakeem Saeed ground but invited it to hold its rally at the venue.

The ground turned into a battlefield on May 7 after the workers of the two parties clashed to seek its control.

Both the parties planned to hold a rally on May 12 at the same venue which lies in the heart of the city’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighbourhood.
