ITP takes action against traffic rule violators

Squads created for a campaign to check violations by public service vehicles

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has taken a more strict approach toward traffic rule violators. In the past four months ITP has issued more than 280,741 fine tickets to road users and impounded 4,971 cars and motorbikes in various police stations over violations of various traffic laws during the last four months, a police spokesman said.

Traffic chaos ruins the day

He said that a special campaign is underway to check violations by public service vehicles and motorcyclists while various squads have been created for the purpose. These squads are performing duties at main roads of the city and taking action against the violators.

During the last four months, the police spokesperson said that 103,644 public service vehicles were issued fine tickets over various violations and 1,896 vehicles were impounded in police stations.

Traffic violators to soon get e-tickets

He said that action was taken against 6,6717 motorcyclists for not using helmets, 14,469 for using personalised number plates which did not follow the normal pattern on their vehicles, 21,766 for not fastening their seat belts while driving, 13,373 for using mobile phones while driving and 5,844 were fined for driving non-registered vehicles.

Moreover, 16,144 vehicles were fined for lane violation, 11,410 for wrong parking, 11,108 were fined for speeding, 9,298 were fined for violation of traffic signal, 4,814 for using tinted glasses on their cars and 258 vehicles were fined for emitting too much smoke.

In addition to public service vehicles 4,971 cars and motorbikes were impounded in various police stations. A total of 3,340 deserted road users were helped who made a call to the helpline of ITP.

The SSP (Traffic) Farrukh Rasheed said that campaign is underway to ensure a disciplinary traffic system in the city and he also urged the citizens to follow rules.

He said that ITP personnel have been directed to ensure implementation of traffic rules and regulation irrespective of status and rank of the vehicle owners and demonstrate patience and politeness while issuing traffic violation tickets to the road users.
