F1 teams vote against radical changes

MONACO:

Formula One teams have agreed to abandons plans of making radical changes to their cars for the 2013 season.

Teams want to pursue a less radical package of changes that keeps cars similar to the current ones but reduces drag and fuel consumption. The FIA has until the end of June to decide whether to force its plans against the team’s wishes.

The aim was to reduce fuel consumption by 35% in tandem with a switch from 2.4-litre V8 engines to 1.6-litre turbo engines with ‘green’ technology. But the teams have said that the plan would require a lot of work at a lot of expense.

“We’re not scared but if you do spend all that money, why not something you can get to very quickly and cheaply with the current floor,” said Sam Michael, Williams Technical Director.
