Rescue officials say incident took place at a small factory

FAISALABAD: Two labourers were killed while three others were injured due to an explosion in a firecracker factory in Faisalabad.

Rescue officials said the incident took place at a small factory in which labourers were busy making firecrackers for their production unit at Makoana Bypass. As a result of explosion, Faisal, Ghulam Qadir and Dastagir died on the spot while Tufail, Bashir and Bahadur sustained serious injuries after being caught under the rubble.

“The explosion has totally damaged the factory,” Kharianwala SHO Javed said. He added a case had been registered against the factory owner for violating the rules and not maintaining proper safety measures in the factory.

The area is home to dozens of factories popularly known for their firecrackers. The factories have historically been noted for the quality of its fireworks.
