KARACHI: The spouse of one of the men sentenced to death by a military court in connection with the killing of qawwali maestro Amjad Sabri on Thursday moved Sindh High Court against the judgement.

Muhammad Asim, the convict, had confessed to killing the iconic singer before the military court. He is currently incarcerated in Malir Cantonment.

In her petition, Asim's wife said she had no knowledge of trial proceedings that resulted in the conviction of her husband.  The woman said she became cognisant of the verdict following the release of an April 19 Inter-Services Public Relations statement.

"I contacted relevant authorities after to file an appeal," she reportedly said. "Asim does not belong to any terrorist group. The jurisdiction of the military court does not extend to this case. The verdict should be stayed until my appeal is heard," the woman told reporters.

The petitioner urged the Sindh High Court to stay the execution of the convict. The defense ministry and the Interior Ministry have also been made parties to the case. Asim was wanted in connection with 22 other cases besides the the murder of Sabri, according to police.
