LAHORE: Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Chaudhry Sarwar has said that the PTI does not need to form an alliance with any other political party as his party was already in a strong position and would perform well in the upcoming general elections.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Sarwar said all arrangements have been made to hold a huge public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan on Sunday. He highlighted that party was going to kick-start its awareness campaign from today (Thursday), in order to attract a maximum number of people to Minar-e-Pakistan public gathering. Publicity of public gathering would be done in schools, colleges, universities and shopping malls.

Criticising the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Sarwar said this time no ‘thief politician’ would be allowed to move from prison to hospital on the pretext of ‘illness’. “Earlier, it was a normal practice that whenever noose of accountability was tightened on powerful people, they took refuge in hospitals. But this is not be possible in the new Pakistan,” he added.

He said armed forces of Pakistan have done remarkable work in the eradication of terrorism.

“It is the responsibility of the government to make foolproof security arrangement for Minar-e-Pakistan public gathering.”

The PTI Senator pointed out that his party has sought permission from the government to hold a public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan but the government denied the permission. However, the party has made arrangement and would hold a public gathering at any cost.

Responding to a question about sudden cancellation of all political activities in Lahore by PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Sarwar said the PTI chief had pressing engagements so he asked him to visit membership camps on his behalf and address party workers on Tuesday.

He said that he had seen a great zeal among party worker for Sunday public gathering.

Responding to another question, he said the party would award tickets only on merit. “Preliminary meetings are underway to shortlist names of the potential candidates. However, the final decision will be made after consultation with senior party’s leadership,” he asserted.

Members of the PTI public gathering mobilisation committee, including Sadia Sohail, Sheikh Imtiaz, Naeemul Haq, Dr Shahid Siddique, Naveed Ansari, Rizwana Ghazanfar and Owais Yunus were also present on the occasion.
