LAHORE: A man lodged a complaint with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), asking them to investigate the alleged illegal recruitment of 987 Grade 11 emergency medical technicians (EMT) for Rescue 1122. In the complaint, Mohammad Waris stated that he had applied to the emergency service for an EMT job. Waris cleared the written and the physical exam with ease. However, after the interview portion, a few officials approached the candidates demanding a bribe of up to Rs0.2 million for the final selection. When the final list was displayed, candidates were shocked to see that those applicants who had scored lesser marks in the examinations had been chosen. In response to this, Rescue 1122 Spokesperson Jan Sajjad Hussain denied all the allegations saying that all selections were made on merit. The recruitment process was supervised by a four members committee headed by officials from various departments, he added. He also warned candidates to beware of any unscrupulous activity; the department does not associate itself with any such individuals, he added.
