PFA discards toxic vegetables

Authorities decide to register a case against farmers and landowners

LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA), in its ongoing drive against the elimination of poisonous vegetable crops, discarded thousands of kilogrammes of produce by ploughing on 546 kanal of land in different districts of Punjab on Monday.

The authority has decided to register a case against farmers and landowners in case it finds vegetables are being cultivated with polluted water. PFA Director General Noorul Amin Mengal has also directed all operation teams to take strict action against those involved in this heinous business. He underscored that the authority will discard all harmful vegetables before the holy month of Ramazan as these harmful crops cause various diseases among citizens. According to the spokesman of the provincial food watchdog, PFA officials carried out a comprehensive operation from Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur to Attock districts on Monday.
