Over 5,000 policemen have been called back to the barracks, two days after Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar directed police chiefs across all the provinces to withdraw security protocol provided to ‘influential individuals’ in punjab.

Approximately 2,000 people, including politicians, judges, lawyers and other government officials were reaping the benefits of official security provided by the provincial administration, Express News reported.

An estimated 1,400 policemen protecting politicians, 1,100 designated for 527 police officials and 650 providing security to officials of the subordinate judiciary were called back to the barracks.

A report by the Punjab government revealed that 41 personnel protecting 39 lawyers, 300 designated for 275 religious leaders and 1,050 personnel providing security protocol to 250 ‘influential citizens’ were also ordered back by the authorities.

Justice Nisar also issued the same directives directives to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Police Inspector General (IG) Salahuddin Mehsud, along with IGs of all the other provinces, through a notice during the hearing of a case pertaining to security provided to individuals in K-P.
